McCarty was a standout at the University of Kentucky, helping to lead the Wildcats to the 1996 National Championship. He was a first round NBA draft pick and played 8 of his 10 seasons for the Boston Celtics. After his playing career Walter joined his former coach, Rick Pitino, as an assistant at the University of Louisville.

In 2010, Don Mattingly and Jamey Carroll helped the Hot Stove League receive a $75,000 grant through the Major League Baseball fund to refurbish the Evansville Boys and Girls Club baseball field.  The Hot Stove League helped the club raised a total of $75,000 by Jan. 1, 2010 to match the Major League Baseball fund grant.

 

The field was dedicated  Nov 11, 2010 and the kids started playing spring of 2011.
