Saturday, November 22,  we dedicated the Habitat for Humanity house (that our members helped build and pay for) at the New Haven subdivision.   Don & Preston Mattingly presented the family the keys. Thanks to all of you there for this dedication to support not only our organization, but also the family that is moving in to this house. Habitat of Evansville thanks everyone who helped make this house a family's home.  full story

Click for update on HeathTriple-A star pitcher Phillips has a shot to make White Sox team in '08
By Scott Merkin / MLB.com
CHICAGO-
Heath Phillips, 25(Evansville Central 2000) was named International League Most Valuable Pitcher in 2006 after going 13-5 with a 2.96 ERA (51 ER/155.0 IP) and 102 strikeouts in 25 games (24 starts) with Charlotte. He ranked second in the IL in ERA and tied for second in wins. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Phillips was the winning pitcher in the IL All-Star Game and compiled a streak of 27.1 consecutive scoreless IP from May 10-June 2. He also was a member of the USA Regional Olympic Qualifying Team in August 2006.
Outlook: Phillips is viewed as a sleeper to take over as the fifth starter for the White Sox in 2008. Phillips’ tops out at 88 mph and often works in the mid-80s. He uses a cutter to good effect and his changeup is a quality pitch. His curve needs additional work. Phillips could develop into a fourth starter. This year, his AAA ERA jumped to 4.30, but that was all because of an awful May. He was 7-0 with a 2.43 ERA after the All-Star break.
Update Oct. 23: Heath Phillips allowed one run over six innings and struck out eight Sunday for Mochis of the Mexican Pacific League. Heath made his Major League debut in September after two fine years in Triple-A and allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings of relief.
